Garden Gear on Amazon
Selection of recommended products

Although only my second year, I've bought and used a number of items off of Amazon. I now have an affiliate link, so please feel free to browse below.
We follow a number of steps and have different areas for plants at different stages in the office.
- Seed propagation area, seed propagator under low purple light with heat matts set to 25 degrees and next to radiator
- Young seedling area (bottom shelf in image), lower level lights, easier to maintain individual watering levels
- Older seedling/young plant area (top shelf in image), under brighter lights and window to maintain growth
- Waiting area, for plants waiting to go out, but the weather isn't quite warm enough
- Hardening off area
Future plans for the garden will involve moving this setup outside into a greenhouse with a solar panel.
Seed Trays

We use them both indoors and outdoors, and have a total of 9.
An added benefit is that they fit perfectly into a 40cm wide Grow Bag tray (see below), so if used indoors it helps catch any spills.
You can use up to the full 40 pods, but we tend to leave a few empty for room, or to enable watering.
The width of the edges are just enough to put a label on.
Once the seedlings are ready to put into small pots, we will flip the top and bottom lids and use them for bottom watering.
Grow Bag Trays

100cm x 40cm and 6cm deep, these trays are perfect for grow bags, but other uses in the home and garden.
We pop two heat matts and up to four seed trays at any one time.
Heat Matt

The current set-up is two heat matts on a grow bag tray, with one thermostat in one of the pots or seed trays, using a plug splitter below, so that both matts are turned on or off at the same time.
For this set-up buy two Thermostat Combo Set, and one 10"x 20-2 Pack for around £65 as of January 2026.
Double Plug Adapter

Multi Plug Extension: Features 2 AC outlets and 3 USB ports
A maximum load of 3250W (250V, 13A), it's ideal for solving plug shortages in any room, or a great gardening setup!
Many alternatives are available, but this is the model we used, the USB feature was handy for a retrofitted set of old computer fans I've built...
Grow Lights

We currently have two of these setup, the handy grip can be attached to a banister or desk type unit easily. We only recommend these style of lights for early stage germination, once they have sprouted move onto a white light.
Powering in at 10 W this LED Full Spectrum Grow Light is pretty tight on the electric consumption too.
SANSI 12W LED Grow Light

A great option for retrofitting old desk lamps, this bulb can cover around 2sq foot, but with it's LED design, it only consumes 12W of energy.
Initially I retrofitted into a small old desk lamp, but then bought a larger swing lamp with the same fitting and mounted it higher.
There are other options available on the link provided.
SANSI 600W LED

From this link we have used both the 600W equivalent, and the 10W dimmable (mounted on the roof of the shelving unit.
The 600W version in particular gives me great flexibility to tweak the position of the lights where plants need a bit more or less, and combined with some basic rotation is a great versatile option for any home grower looking to get ahead in late winter.
Seed Compost

Again, there are many to choose from, but this is the version we've used.
Results have been good so far.
Seed Container

64 containers is more than enough for most gardeners, and it comes with stickers and tweezers.
